Hunter Memorial Foundation and Revolutionize Hollywood are calling for artists to submit proposals for a mural located in Chattanooga. The mural will soon be installed next year 2023.

The Hunter Memorial Foundation in partnership with Revolutionize Hollywood proudly presents the Don’t Forget the Bridge public mural. This open call is to Chattanooga residents only.

The Hunter Memorial Foundation located in Chattanooga, TN, in collaboration with Revolutionize Hollywood, is seeking qualifications from artists or art teams for the commission of a public mural to commemorate the legacy of service and kindness of the late Mr. W.C and Mrs. Claudine “Peggy” Hunter; lives of every-day heroes of the community  through the mural Don’t Forget the Bridge.

This opportunity is open to all professional artists over the age of 17 residing in Chattanooga who have successfully completed at least three mural art commissions (public or private) within the past five years. Artists need to provide evidence of prior work experience with similar scale public art projects and documentation in their resume, photographs, and references.  Artists must meet the above criteria to apply. 

Up to three finalists will be selected to develop concept proposals for this project. The total project budget for the selected commission is not to exceed $21,000. These may include, but are not limited to costs for: materials; painting supplies; rentals (lifts, scaffolding, etc.); third party contractors needed to complete the work; and misc. expenses.

Each finalist will be paid a $100.00 stipend for his/her proposal. The selected artist/art team will be paid up to $1,500.00 for the commissioned work. The selected artist/art team will be responsible for their own travel costs, housing, and personal liability insurance. Finalists will be required to present their work to the Selection Committee. If a finalist prefers to present their concept proposal virtually, then arrangements will be made to do so.

CHATTANOOGA

Chattanooga is a city with the most breath-taking landscapes and sits right on the banks of the Tennessee River, nestled between the Cumberland Plateau and the towering Appalachian Mountains. Because of this, Chattanooga has earned the nickname “The Scenic City.” Chattanooga is best known for Glenn Miller’s famous song “The Chattanooga Choo Choo.” One of the coolest things about Chattanooga is its history told through architecture the city is surrounded by brick warehouses, many of which have been repurposed into housing, bridges, an recently an explosion of murals. The population of Chattanooga, as well as Hamilton County represent a diverse ethnic mix and range of values exemplifying what the concept of community is all about. A project such as the Don’t Forget the Bridge constitutes a sense of unification and diversity. The mural will connect people, personalise spaces and activate civic dialogue to develop and sustain the revitalization of our shared environments, through helping create culturally vibrant and livable communities.
